Charles “Charlie” Chaplin is an iconic Hollywood actor, director and producer, originally from England, who is most famous for his silent protagonist, “The Tramp”, and for pioneering a particular style of physical humor in film.
Chaplin has repeatedly voiced sympathies for the Union of Britain and the Commune of France, however he maintains he is not a “follower of Marx” and instead, as a European, he merely sympathizes with these anti-war regimes. Nevertheless this has landed him in murky waters inside Hollywood, due to the federal government's pressure; who views him as a suspect “syndicalist”, holding up clues such as his reception of William Z. Foster, in his home, in 1922.
